A Letter to Parents
Dear Parents,
“For This Child I Pray” is a project birthed out of a longing to pray for my sons. As a young mother I would sit during feeding times and listen to a lullaby tape, all the while weeping and searching for the words to pray for this new and precious life entrusted to my care. I felt so ill equipped to pray for my sons. I confess I was afraid. “What if I sounded foolish? What if I did it wrong?” But how I longed for them to know this Jesus that I myself was getting to know at 30 years old.
What do you ask the Creator of Life for as you pray? Over the last 14 years I would read my Bible, and as I did, I would discover a passage of scripture that would be a longing of my heart for my child. Often I would pray that one passage for several months, speaking it over my sons as I woke them or as they left for school. This CD is a compilation of some of the scriptures that I have prayed, and it is my heart’s desire to bless you as a parent with a tool to encourage you to pray during those precious times of rocking, feeding and even while driving in the car. I have used actual scripture passages and personalized them in the form of prayers for parents to pray for a child. As you listen and pray, I hope you add your child’s name and in the musical space between what I have chosen to pray, that you will add the prayers of your heart’s desire for your little one.
There is a passage in Isaiah 40:11 that says, “He will gather the lambs in His arms, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young.” As you listen and pray, may you trust that your Heavenly Father will gently lead you as you raise your little one and that He will carry your child close to His heart.
